Royal Oak’s first sky­scraper, the Wash­ing­ton Square Build­ing, spans a city block in roman­tic art deco style. Built in 1927, and com­pletely remod­eled in 1987, the Plaza has two city blocks of retail space con­nected by an indoor atrium with foun­tain. A mar­ble clad cir­cu­lar stair­case leads to a con­fer­ence cen­ter on the sec­ond floor adja­cent to an exte­rior veg­e­tated rooftop deck. Offices are on floors 2-6 with retail/office on the ground floor.

The Wash­ing­ton Square Plaza is home to many fine din­ing and enter­tain­ment estab­lish­ments: the Royal Oak Music The­atre, D’Amato’s Restau­rant, Good­night Gra­cie Jazz & Mar­tini Bar, Ronin Sushi, and Ernie’s Pizza Café.
