The Primary Schoolhouse Building is located in the center of the historic Kingfield Village, gateway to Maine's High Peaks region, including Sugarloaf Ski Resort and Maine Huts and Trails. Constructed in 1875, the Greek Revival building functioned for almost 100 years as the Town's primary school, carefully maintained throughout those years. After several decades of various uses, including offices, artist's studios, a residence, a bakery and a cafe, the building was completely renovated in 2010. New windows, exterior wall insulation, interior walls, new plumbing, electrical and energy efficient heating systems were installed. The wood floors were refinished, tin ceilings repaired, a spacious porch, half bath, full bath and kitchenette were added and the entire building, interior and exterior, was repainted. A new metal roof with upgraded structural support was installed in 2013 and additional energy savings were realized by installing a concrete floor and spray insulation on the basement walls and bulkhead.

The building has a square footprint, with approximately 35' x 35' (1,200 SF) on each of three levels, totaling nearly 3,600 SF of interior space with a 12' x 30' open front porch. Each of the two upper levels has 17 large windows surrounding the open floor, views from the second floor extending to the High Peak mountaintops to the north and west. The almost 10' high ceilings increase the feeling of spaciousness and light.

The building currently houses a Fine Art Gallery featuring local photography, and accompanying studios and workspace. The porch fronts a future Kingfield Village Green, the central municipal park area, home to several annual Art festivals, the weekly Kingfield Farmers Market and musical events. Surrounding buildings include a bank, the Kingfield Post Office, a Real Estate office and a burrito cafe - insuring foot traffic throughout the day.
