Earthquake Preparedness

So apparently Tuesday was the 140th anniversary of the 1868 Hayward Fault earthquake.  "140th Anniversary?  Who cares" you ask?  Well...The Hayward fault is "considered one of the most dangerous in United States because of its presence in a major metropolitan area.  Scientists say it averages a major quake every 140 years and have estimated there is a 30 percent chance of a major quake occurring along the 60-mile fault within the next three decades."  That's why you should care.  Let me repeat what they said: Tuesday was

the 140th anniversary for one of the biggest earthquakes ever (6.8-7.0 on the Richter Scale if that existed back in 1868) on a fault that historicaly averages a MAJOR EARTHQUAKE every 140 years.  So essentially the "big one" could happen any day now.  At any time!

So that brings me to my next question, is your company prepared if a major earthquake were to occur during the workday?  Do you have a plan for yourself, your employees and your business?  Think about the preparation you have taken at home (If you haven't prepared at home, you're crazy and you should do that immediately).  That same preparation should be applied to your business.  Obviously, the highest priority in this situation is to keep yourself and your employees safe, but once that is taken care of, how would your business survive?  It's something to think about.  We all live in earthquake country and take it for granted most of the time.  Realize that this earthquake could occur any day and your lack of preparation could drastically affect yourself, your employees and your business.  It's up to you to be ready!
