2 HOPKINS PLAZA – FIRST MARYLAND BUILDING TO INSTALL SCHINDLER’S INNOVATIVE PORT ELEVATOR TECHNOLOGY (MARCH 26, 2012 – BALTIMORE, MD) – Transwestern announced today the installation of Schindler Elevator Corporation’s PORT (Personal Occupant Requirement Terminal) elevator technology in 2 Hopkins Plaza, Baltimore, Maryland. 2 Hopkins Plaza is a 378,798 square foot, 22-story office building located in the heart of Baltimore’s Central Business District. Transwestern’s Kasey Hughes is the exclusive listing agent for the property on behalf of an entity owned by The Union Labor Life Insurance Company. GH Property Management commissioned Schlindler Elevator Corporation to perform a full retrofit to include the installation of their finest equipment and innovative PORT elevator management technology on the building’s eight high-rise elevators. 2 Hopkins Plaza is the first building in Maryland to benefit from this innovative destination-dispatch elevator system. The system also increases efficiency and energy savings for the building. 2 Hopkins Plaza’s elevator modernization project is not limited to improving the performance and reliability of the elevator service; the focus is on enhancing the overall personal experience of the building’s tenants and visitors alike. Specifically, users’ experience will change in the following ways: • Personalized Elevator Service - Passengers select their destination using modern touch screen devices that direct you to the assigned elevator car. Individual comfort is maximized by eliminating the queues of riders rushing to one elevator at peak traffic times. • Increased Speed & Capacity - Sophisticated “Destination Dispatch” algorithms group riders by their destinations, allowing them to be clustered with other riders going to nearby floors. This systematic delivery increases elevator traffic capacity and most importantly, delivers riders to their locations up to 25% faster. • Individualization - The advanced interface device, “the ID Port,” offers a multitude of potential configurations and preferences for individual tenants and users based on their specific needs for items such as security, visitor control, etc. In addition to this recent project, upwards of $10 million in capital improvements have gone into the building over the course of the last decade to include energy efficient building system modifications, life safety system upgrades, as well as interior common area and building exterior renovations. This recent investment demonstrates the ownership’s continued commitment to the project and its viability as a suitable headquarters location for office tenants in the Baltimore Central Business District.
