Check out coworking spaces such as Outside the Cube in San francisco. Great way to downsize or have temporary professional office space from daily to monthly to 6 month and yearly options. Right now, you can get open space for $350/month and Dedicated desk for $475/month Full service. Definitely the affordable way to work and also have the opportunity to meet other people who ultimately could help you grow your business.

Co-working, executive suites and other forms of on-demand offices can all be great options depending upon your needs. You can get plug&play, month-to-month furnished offices almost anywhere. For example in the San Francisco Bay Area I know of 56 business centers. Go to Google and search for "on-demand offices". Maked sure to look for a local provider.

I would be conducting research in the mean time. Sitting idle is the worst thing, as you won't have a finger on the pulse.

We can hook you up with commerical real estate data if you're interested.

Of course. Lots of choices. It depends however on where you need to be and how many square feet. Despite the downturn, anything near the ballpark is still very much occupied. If you want to be in the financial district however the word is yours, and it is all plug and play right now with great rates. It is a good time to be a tenant seeking space.
Call to discuss, I would be happy to put some things in front of you.
